Automatic pick-and-place system scans and verifies the part code
With this new building, IBG is realising the provision and automatic assembly of a panoramic roof system including an automatic adjustment unit for the automotive industry. In the production process, workpiece cassettes in four different designs are delivered via customer racks and prepared for the assembly process.
The workpieces are automatically removed from the racks one after the other using a pick-and-place system, and their part code is scanned and verified. Precise positioning in the transfer station enables the robot gripper to access the assembly screws of the workpieces to be removed. Once the body has entered the station, it is automatically positioned on a conveyor belt and transferred for final assembly.
For final assembly, the industrial robot enters the body through the opening in the windscreen and attaches the panoramic roof cassette using 18 automatically synchronised screwdrivers. After successful installation, the system robot moves out of the car body and gives the release signal.
