Pioneering robot systems for innovative order picking of goods
A highly reliable industrial robot enables the customised implementation of an automatic system for picking stud bolts and cap nuts in different variants. The innovative picking solution developed by IBG comprises a robot cell in which a robot arm equipped with a range of magnetic grippers works autonomously. Picking orders are read into a machine terminal via a barcode scanner and an optimised packing pattern of the required components is automatically generated. The source and target carriers for this customised automation cell are fed manually. Supported by state-of-the-art sensor technology, the presence of material pallets is checked directly at the start of picking.
Efficient vision technology was a huge advantage for us in the development of this automation process.
The 3D camera system installed for this purpose generates a point cloud of the source carrier and compares this with the model data of the components stored in the variant matrix. This data is transmitted to the robot system so that it can determine the required gripping positions of the components to be gripped. The use of an automatic picking robot has created a reliable automation solution that offers an enormous advantage over conventional manual gripper or crane systems from an ergonomic point of view.
